TRADITIONAL HERBAL USES AND MEDICINAL PROPERTIES

Eucalyptus is known for its therapeutic action in respiratory conditions. It can bring relief to sinus congestion, coughs, flu, catarrh and bronchitis. It is even known to be beneficial for asthma sufferers. It is also known to be stimulating to the immune system, and to the circulatory system. Eucalyptus is also good for relieving aches and pains, and for treating oesteo-arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

PREPARATIONS:
Eucalyptus essential oil can be used in the bath, can be vaporized in an oil burner or can be applied topically in a carrier massage oil or cream. See How to use Essential Oils

FOLKLORE AND HISTORY

Eucalyptus has been used by Aborigines for millennia. Its active ingredients have made an excellent medicine for treating typhoid, malaria and other fevers. European settlers learned from the Aborigines about its uses, and they popularized it for use in respiratory conditions.


CONSTITUENTS

Oxides as 1.8 Cineole 75%, terpenes as a-Pinene, Limonene, p-Cymene, phillandrene 10%, alcohols as globulol, trans pinocarveol 6%, sesquiterpenes as armadendrene 4%, esters as a - terpinyl acetate 1.0%, ketone pinocarvone 1.0%, acids, aldehydes.


TYPICAL PREPARATIONS AND DOSAGE

Eucalyptus essential oil can be used in the bath, or vapourised in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil or cream. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart


PRECAUTIONS

Not compatible with homeopathic treatment. Avoid in cases of high blood pressure, pregnancy and epilepsy
