TRADITIONAL HERBAL USES AND MEDICINAL PROPERTIES Hyssop is used traditionally in coughs, colds, bronchitis and chronic catarrh. It is an expectorant, sedative and anti-spasmodic so it can calm the chest and aid breathing when congested. It combines well with white horehound in the treatment of coughs and chest problems, and with peppermint for the common cold. FOLKLORE AND HISTORY The Greek Hippocrates recommended hyssop to treat bronchitis.
CONSTITUENTS Diterpenoid lactones, Triterpenoids, Diosmin, Marrubiin, Oleanolic acid, Pinocamphone, Isopinocamphone, Hyssopin, Flavonoids, Tannins.
TYPICAL PREPARATIONS AND DOSAGE 1-2 teasp dried herb as tea 3 times per day. 1-4ml tincture 3 times per day PRECAUTIONS Excessive use (many times the recommended dosage) may cause seizures. Pregnant women, those who suffer from epilepsy or from high blood pressure should avoid Hyssop
