It seems like only yesterday that I was writing the April newsletter and now it’s June. Time always seems to go faster at this time of year.
Here at Indigo Herbs we’re working morning noon and night (literally) as we are simultaneosly introducing a whole new range of products (essential oils…more below) and getting ready to take Indigo Herbs to our local festivals (more below) and of course continuing to send out all the herbs and superfoods that you have been ordering.
Also in this newsletter, your monthly discount code and a short story about how Indigo Herbs spirulina is helping to save an endangered species of frog. read this entry » |

Here is a guide to Using essential oils.
When using essential oils, it is important to ensure the neat essential oils are never applied directly to the skin.
Essential oils can be added to a carrier substance to create a dilution. It is essential to choose the correct proportion of essential oils to carrier substances (see Dosage Chart)
Sweet Almond oil, Grape-seed oil and Wheat-germ oil are the most popular choices for using in Aromatherapy, however many plant oils can be used. There is a wide range of different botanical oils available, and each one has unique properties. All plant oils are absorbed by the skin however so always use a good quality 100% pure botanical oil. Many body oils use ingredients that are products of the petrochemical industry (even ‘natural’ products). The skin is immensely sensitive, so the general rule is don’t put on your body what you wouldn’t put in your food. Other carrier substances include botanical butters, such as Cacao butter, Coconut butter, Shea butter and plant gels such as Aloe Vera. Essential oils can be added to Full fat Soya, Goats or Cow milk for bathing in (Cleopatra would approve) and vodka can be used to preserve and fix an essential oil blend.

Here at Indigo Herbs we have recently doubled our range of Natural Herbal Incense and re-designed our incense pages. As part of this initiative we also decided to develop a range of incense blends –
Indigo Incense Whispers. To achieve this, Claire and I each took home a bag of every single pure incense we had and got creative. I spent a number of evenings in front of the fire with a pestle and mortar and a set of small scales experimenting with the different incense resins, aromatic woods and leaves, and creating incense blends. This experience has proved to be a deeply satisfying creative outlet as well as a bit of a revelation.
Sitting alone with bags of incense made me feel like the magicians apprentice. Grind a grain of incense up into powder, put it on the charcoal, inhale, see where it takes you…Some incense seems to have an inherent effect, the smell opening a part of the imagination previously asleep. After a few burns I was in a world of my own. Another incense,
Copal reminds me of people and experiences I have known, allowing me to draw from their memory… now add some
Palo Santo and … whoosh …

Dreaming in the bath
I’ve been dreaming. Yes, just lying in the bath dreaming. One of my favourite pass times. Into my mermaid dreamtime slipped some great new ideas. I love
raw chocolate. I always did enjoy a bit of chocolate, but i did use to struggle with the guilt that came after, and the spots, and the general feeling of imbalance in my body that always use to follow a sensuous binge on the dark stuff. So when i discovered how to make raw chocolate, and i discovered the health and well being benefits of eating it i was a happy girl. However i began to want more.
An act of creation
I wanted crunch, and texture, i wanted chewy and i wanted it to be food. I wanted, dare i say it to eat chocolate for lunch and

Omega 3 Wakame Omelette with Alfalfa and Fenugreek Sprouts
A few nights back and just after I had finished putting my twins to bed, the question of dinner came up. As a hands-on dad of twins, time management has become vital to getting anything done, so the the question became what is quick to make, will be filling, delicious and nutritious? A veggie omelette was quickly in mind and I started cracking eggs whilst mum started chopping up some veg she had recently brought up from the garden.
I had recently brought home a bag of Wakame kelp from Indigo Herbs with a view to trying it out. So, being an adventurous kind of chef I decided to read this entry »
