Equipment
- A Pyrex Jug
- Small Saucepan
- Blender
- Wooden Skewer
- Sterilised Jam Jar for Final Product
Method
- Firstly, pour water in to fill half of the saucepan.
- Weigh out the 100g of coconut oil into your pyrex jug, then gently melt on the stove by placing the jug into the saucepan of heating water.
- The coarse himalayan pink salt, is made up of large crystals so while the coconut oil is melting, ground it up to a fine salt using a blender. To create a more homemade feel. If you wish to skip this step, we sell fine himalayan pink salt too.
- Next, take the melted coconut oil off the heat. Pour, the salt into the coconut oil, add the mint leaves, then gently stir with a wooden skewer.
- The idea is to keep stirring while the coconut oil soldifies to the salt and the mint are dispersed throughout it.
- If you are making it on a very cold day, place on a cold windowsill for a few moments between stirs.
- If making on a warmer day, you could place it in fridge for 5 minutes or so before taking it out and stirring again.
- Add the grapefruit oil to the mixture after about 15 minutes of stirring, just before the coconut oil has completely solidified.
- When your scrub has almost solidified, scoop it into jar and give a few more stirs for good measure. Place back on cold windowsill or into fridge (dependant on day) to completely set.
- When using: scoop out a small amount and rub into skin before rinsing off - leaving skin feeling soft and moisturised.
- Note: the coconut oil will make the bath slippery, so do take care! Also, if using this salt scrub in the summer months, be aware that grapefruit essential oil is photosensitive - meaning it can increase your skins sensitivity to the skin. That's why this scrub is most perfect for winter use.
