Also known as: Black Maca
Maca, sometimes called “Peruvian Ginseng”, is an ancient food source from the Andes region with a rich supply of vitamins and minerals. It contains a rare blend of minerals, including iodine, which supports the adrenal glands and thyroid to produce vital hormones in the proper dosages determined by the bodily need of each individual. Other essential minerals present are; calcium, potassium, iron and zinc – these minerals work in tandem to promote healthy bones, healthy red blood cells, maintain normal blood pressure and the optimal function of the immune system – with vitamin B6 working alongside iron in the formation of fresh red blood cells.
Also high in the anti-oxidant minerals manganese and copper and the immune boosting vitamin C, maca is a known adaptogen – adaptogens are a unique group of herbal ingredients which help your body adjust to extreme circumstances. Getting its characteristic blue/black colour from the high anthocyanin content, Black Maca in particular is thought to protect against stress, fatigue and to increase memory more than the other varieties of this potent root.
Whether it’s consumed for enhanced energy, boosting the immune system or improving bone density, our Organic Black Maca Powder makes a tasty addition to any diet!
Black Maca Powder can be taken with hot or cold water, you can add milk and honey too, and it can be mixed with fruit juice or smoothies, sprinkled on cereal or added to many other foods.
Maca is a popular herbal supplement and an integral part of the Peruvian way of life, it is a root vegetable that looks a bit like a turnip and it is put into soups, cakes, breads and drinks in Peru. It is grown high in the Andes at 14,000 ft in very rich soils, so its mineral content is especially high.

Our Organic Black Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.
The seed are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.
Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Black Maca Powder.
Maca is not recommended for women with breast, ovarian, uterine or other hormone related cancers.
