RDA: reference intake of an average adult

Our Organic Black Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.

The seed are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.

Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Black Maca Powder.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! Our Estonian Wild Crafted Chaga can be brewed into a tea. Heat in water over a low heat (160°F or 75°C) to extract the phyto-chemicals of this medicinal mushroom. Brew for up to an hour, (will turn a deep brown colour, then drink). The same Chaga can be re-used until the water extracted from the chunk is pale in colour.

Serving:

1 - 2 teaspoons of Wild Crafted Chaga per cup is usually sufficient for one cup of Chaga tea. Remember that the Chaga can be reused.

Wild Crafted Chaga from Indigo Herbs are harvested from Birch trees in Estonia. Only mature Chaga mushrooms are harvested and smaller immature Chaga fungal growth is left until it has reached an acceptable size for harvesting. The Chaga mushroom grows high up on the Birch tree, and is picked in spring and summer. The mushroom absorbs the nutrients and compounds from the tree and makes it more available to humans. Chaga lives in a symbiotic relationship with the birch tree. The experienced fungus expert will break off the Chaga conk (the piece of fungal matter exposed on the trunk or tree branch) with his/her hand and taken back to be prepared for drying. If there is no sun available then the Chaga is usually dehydrated at a temperature no less than 40.5°C. The drying process is done as quickly as possible to insure that no other bacteria or fungus can grow on the Chaga matter. The pure fungus is then broken down to make small Chaga pieces and coarse powder.

There are no known side effects to date from consuming Chaga.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices. 

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. This Chaga Mushroom Extract Powder is a very strong concentrate. It is recommended to take very little. Unlike other Chaga products this Chaga Extract powder does not need to be boiled to extract the precious phytochemical content. It can very easily be added to smoothies, fruit juice, herbal blends and food just as it is.

Serving:

¼ to 1 teaspoon of Chaga Mushroom Extract Powder per day. Do not exceed stated serving.

1 teaspoon equals 2.5 grams (1 tsp = 2.5g)

This Chaga Extract Powder is made from a hot water extraction method where by a Chaga brew is concentrated in special vacuum sealed water evaporators. A small amount of Maltodextrin is then used as a carrier and mixed with the remaining Chaga concentrate before being spray dried. Spray drying is a common method of converting liquids into powder and involves the liquid being passed through a nozzle that makes a very fine spray. As the spray falls through a heated chamber the warm air dries it producing a powder. The hot air and powder are then separated in a ‘cyclone chamber’ and powder collected. This results in our highly concentrated Chaga Mushroom Extract Powder. This extract is made in China but comes from wild crafted Siberian Chaga.

Vitamin A is the name given to a group of fat-soluble antioxidant compounds.  Two different types of vitamin A are found in the diet; “preformed vitamin A” (also referred to as retinol or retinal) is found in animal products and “pro-vitamin A” is found in plant based foods - the most common type being beta-carotene.  It was the first fat soluble vitamin to be recognised and is sometimes referred to as the “anti-infective” vitamin due to its enhancement of the body’s immunity against infections by increasing the lymphatic responses against disease forming antigens.  It keeps the mucous membranes moist that line the mouth, respiratory passage and urinary tract and enhances the activity of white blood cells.

Vitamin C, a water soluble vitamin also known as ascorbic acid, is one of the safest and most effective vitamins whose benefits are many.  It is absolutely vital in collagen production – collagen is a simple protein and an essential part of our connective tissue – the very framework of our body.  All of the components that hold our bodies together such as skin, bones, blood vessels, teeth and gums, tendons and cartilage rely upon collagen.  Vitamin C is directly responsible for influencing collagen synthesis and helps to shield us from the symptoms of collagen deletion – most famously scurvy!

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market.   1. Prepare our Organic Quinoa by rinsing with cold running water before cooking
  2. Add to a pan with roughly double the amount of salted water
  3. Using a medium heat bring to the boil
  4. Once boiling, turn down the heat and simmer
  5. Leave for 10 - 15 minutes until water has been absorbed and Quinoa is tender

After cooking, Quinoa can be added to stir fry, cold salads and can even be used for baking cakes.

Folate – the naturally occurring vitamin B9 – is often confused with folic acid.  Folic acid is a synthetically derived molecule created in a German laboratory in the 1940s and does not occur naturally in food.  Needless to say, folate metabolizes faster in the body and any excess is excreted through the urine whereas folic acid can accumulate in the blood and may adversely affect immune cell function.  Nature knows best when it comes to nutrition!  Folate is probably the vitamin whose essential role in pregnancy is most widely known.  It is necessary for the production of new DNA which is needed for the production of new cells – the growing life within the womb engages in constant cell division and the mother must expand her blood supply with the production of new red blood cells – these activities demand a generous supply of folate.

Manufacture Process

This Quinoa Grain comes from Certified Organic land where it has been hand harvested. Black Quinoa is harvested when the plant and seed have nearly completely dried out and have below 10% moisture remaining. Harvest needs to be precisely timed by eye in order for the seed to be at the perfect maturity. Then begins a simple process of threshing and winnowing to remove of the outer husk of the seed before drying. After this initial drying period the Black Quinoa is washed to remove the pericap (layer containing bitter tasting saponins) before being stored and made ready for sale.

There are some reports of people being allergic to Quinoa and it causing stomach upset.
