Black Pepper Products

Known as the "King of the Spices", black pepper is thought to have originated in the Western Ghats of Kerala in India. With a history stretching back over 4,000 years, black pepper was written about in the Mahabarata back in the 4th century BCE. Black peppercorns were once valued so highly they were considered as precious as pearls and were even used as a form of money along trading routes. Attila the Hun and the Visigoths included black pepper as part of the ransom fee after sacking Rome and the Roman Emporer, Marcus Aurelius, taxed all peppers except black.

Black pepper was traditionally used as a digestive aid. According to the ancient Indian system of Ayurveda the heat and pungency of this spice could stimulate digestion and help to metabolise food. It can be used to enhance both sweet and savoury dishes, providing and excellent depth of flavour alongside many other benefits.

Here at Indigo we offer an extremely high quality Black Pepper Powder and Black Pepper Essential Oil.

Using Aromatherapy in your daily routine is simple, easy and can be enormously beneficial. Pure neat essential oils can be evaporated into the environment and inhaled while products that have already been diluted in an oil can be applied straight to the skin. There are lots of different ways to utilize the pure neat essential oils; these can be made into a room spray or used in an an essential oil burner/ vaporizer.

This is a lovely way to perfume an environment and essential oils are very good at affecting the mood, mind and emotions when evaporated into the air. Adding essential oils to your bath is the best way to ensure the oils are absorbed through the pores of the skin while also inhaling the vapors; maximum benefit can then be had whilst enjoying a soak. Additionally the neat oils can be diluted into a carrier medium. This can be a cream, body butter, face cream, vegetable body oil and bath salts to name a few. For full instructions go to our How to use Aromatherapy page.

Black Pepper essential oil can be used in the bath, or vaporized in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil or cream. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart

Manufacture Process

Our essential oils are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation or cold pressing.

Indigo Herbs Black Pepper Essential Oil is extracted using the "steam distillation" method. In this process the botanical material is placed in a still and steam is forced over the material. The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the pockets in which the oils are kept. Molecules of the volatile oils then escape and evaporate into the steam. The temperature of the steam needs to be carefully controlled - just enough to force the plant material to let go of the essential oil, yet not too hot as to burn the plant material or the essential oil. The steam now containing the essential oil is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam which forms a liquid. The essential oil is then separated from the water and bottled, resulting in 100% pure essential oil.

Essential oils need to be diluted first; never apply an essential oil directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Black Pepper Powder from Indigo Herbs is a premium quality 100% pure hot and spicy culinary accompaniment with traditional herbal qualities. Black pepper has a long history of traditional use for poor circulation, and muscle and joint pain. It is a warming remedy and used in Ayurvedic medicine.

At Indigo Herbs we are passionate about premium quality botanicals. Explore the tabs on this page to find out more about the quality, manufacture and suggested use of this herbal powder. We are unable to advise you here on the benefits of our herbal products, however we do recommend you take the opportunity to research the many benefits of this herb. At Indigo Herbs we are committed to empowering optimum health and nutrition and assisting you to take responsibility for your own health and wellbeing, by having access to many of natures healing botanicals. Please consult an Herbalist as to how this product can benefit you.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

As well as normal culinary applications this Black Pepper Powder has certain traditional medical applications such as: mixed with ginger, cumin, cloves and salt. The powder is often made into a decoction and drunk. It can be applied topically by mixing with clarified butter/ ghee, or other preparations.

Serving:

A recommended dose of 2-6 grams daily of the powdered black pepper.

1 teaspoon equals 2 grams (1 tsp = 2g)
  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Re-sealable air tight, foil pouch.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Black Pepper Powder comes from the finest pepper corns of the Piper nigrum plants. At peak ripeness the corns are handpicked, set to dry in the shade and then milled into a powder mechanically until a very fine grade is achieved. The Black Pepper powder is then made ready for shipping. This process is complies with GMP standards and is quality assured by Indigo Herbs.

Indigo herbs Black pepper is very finely ground, which is really good. Added to smoothies or salads with turmeric, the pepper is hardly noticeable and the taste is nice.
