Cascara Sagrada is native to North America and literally translates as "sacred bark" from Spanish. The name is thought to have been bestowed on it by Spanish priests for its similarity to the wood used for the ark of the covenant, and for the many benefits of its bark.

The Cacara tree can grow to be around 32 feet tall and has grayish-black bark. It has a long history of traditional use by the Native Americans as a laxative and for digestive complaints. There are also records of its use as a natural laxative by monks dating back to the early part of the 19th century.

Sacred Bark

Cascara Sagrada Bark Powder can be added to smoothies, encapsulated or mixed with a little water or juice.

A typical dosage of Cascara Sagrada Bark Powder is ½g of powdered bark one to two times per day.

Do not take for more than 7 days at a time - may cause dehydration and loss of electrolytes.

Sacred Bark

Cascara Sagrada bark can be made into a herbal tea by decocting the herb by immersing in boiling water over a low heat for 10 minutes, this extracts the phyto-chemicals from the bark. Use 2 cups of boiling water per person. Pour and strain into a cup. Enjoy.

Serving:

Use 1 teaspoon of dried bark to 1 cup of hot water, up to 2 times a day.

Do not take for more than 7 days at a time - may cause dehydration and loss of electrolytes.
