Catnip Products

Although there is no documented evidence, given the Egyptians love of cats, it is highly likely that they were amongst the first people to give Catnip to felines. The Romans also regarded Catnip very highly and used it in their recipes and herbal medicines. Catnip was introduced to America around the 18th century. Settlers took plant cuttings with them for food and medicinal purposes when they traveled to the New World and there is a recipe from Massachusetts 1712 that includes Catnip in the list of ingredients.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Catnip Cut Tea can be made into a hot herbal drink by infusing the herb in boiling water. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

1-2 grams of dried herb per one cup of boiling hot water 3 times a day.

1 teaspoon equals 1 gram (1 tsp = 1g)

Manufacture Process

The plants used for Indigo Herbs Catnip Tea are grown in herb farms specifically for use as tea and other herbal blends. When the catnip plants are in full bloom the flowers and oily aromatic top stem are cut and inspected for insect damage. After this general inspection the best quality flowers and stem are put out to slow dry out of the sun. After drying there is another screening process to ensure that only the premium quality dried flowers and small stem are packed for shipping. All batches are tested for foreign toxins and heavy metals. This process complies with GMP standards and is quality assured by Indigo Herbs.

100% Pure Nepeta cataria dried flower and stem

Top quality catnip! Enjoy it as a tea with amazing taste (tastes very much like morrocan mint tea) or give the dry leaves to your cat and have fun!

I adore Indigo Herbs
I adore Indigo Herbs! I'm a hedge witch and Doula and use lots of herbal goodies. I can buy almost everything I need (that I can't find by foraging) and to my great delight, cacao paste at a fabulous price, which I use medicinally. I needed to buy horseradish root and turmeric root recently to make fire cider and I was disappointed that IH don't supply things like this. If you read this IH perhaps you could consider it? Thank you.
