Citronella

Citronella is a South Asian grass from which the essential oil of Citronella is obtained. It is a "clumping grass" which grows to a height of about five to six feet that flourishes in direct sunlight. This fresh, lemony scented grass is probably most well known and used as a natural insect repellent, used in candles, soaps and aromatherapy oils. Citronella is also powerfully antibacterial and antiseptic and can be mixed with water to create a natural room freshener or chemical free cleaning products.

Citronella essential oil can be used in the bath, or vaporized in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil, cream or water. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart

This powerful, fresh scented oil can also be used in chemical free cleaning products, natural air fresheners and diffused in an oil burner to uplift and de-stress after a hard day.

Blends well with; cedarwood, clary sage, eucalyptus, geranium, lavender, lemon, peppermint, rosemary, and tea tree essential oils.

Contraindications:

Essential oils need to be diluted first; never apply an essential oil directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Manufacture Process

Our essential oils are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation or cold pressing.

Indigo Herbs Citronella Essential Oil is extracted using the "steam distillation" method. In this process the botanical material is placed in a still and steam is forced over the material. The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the pockets in which the oils are kept. Molecules of the volatile oils then escape and evaporate into the steam. The temperature of the steam needs to be carefully controlled - just enough to force the plant material to let go of the essential oil, yet not too hot as to burn the plant material or the essential oil. The steam now containing the essential oil is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam which forms a liquid. The essential oil is then separated from the water and bottled, resulting in 100% pure essential oil.
