Clary sage essential oil is primarily a woman's botanical. It is excellent for balancing female hormones and of great use during menstruation. It is a uterine tonic and with an emmenagogue action, it can promote the healthy flow of blood during the monthly period. It is also used to treat menstrual cramps as it has anti-spasmodic and sedative properties. It is relaxing and can balance the mood.

Using Aromatherapy in your daily routine is simple, easy and can be enormously beneficial. Pure neat essential oils can be evaporated into the environment and inhaled while products that have already been diluted in an oil can be applied straight to the skin. There are lots of different ways to utilize the pure neat essential oils; these can be made into a room spray or used in an an essential oil burner/ vaporizer.

This is a lovely way to perfume an environment and essential oils are very good at affecting the mood, mind and emotions when evaporated into the air. Adding essential oils to your bath is the best way to ensure the oils are absorbed through the pores of the skin while also inhaling the vapors; maximum benefit can then be had whilst enjoying a soak. Additionally the neat oils can be diluted into a carrier medium. This can be a cream, body butter, face cream, vegetable body oil and bath salts to name a few. For full instructions go to our How to use Aromatherapy page.

Clary Sage essential oil can be used in the bath, or vaporized in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil or cream. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart

Manufacture Process

Our essential oils are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation or cold pressing.

Indigo Herbs Clary Sage Essential Oil is extracted using the "steam distillation" method. In this process the botanical material is placed in a still and steam is forced over the material. The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the pockets in which the oils are kept. Molecules of the volatile oils then escape and evaporate into the steam. The temperature of the steam needs to be carefully controlled - just enough to force the plant material to let go of the essential oil, yet not too hot as to burn the plant material or the essential oil. The steam now containing the essential oil is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam which forms a liquid. The essential oil is then separated from the water and bottled, resulting in 100% pure essential oil.

Do not use during pregnancy, or in the case of phyto-oestrogenic cancers. Do not use after the consumption of alcohol. Essential oils need to be diluted first; never apply an essential oil directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.
