Cramp Bark Products

Cramp Bark Products

Also known as the Guelder-rose, Cramp Bark is a large, deciduous shrub that belongs to the honeysuckle family. Native to the lowland forests of Europe and Britain, it has large white flowers that produce small red berries, however as the name suggests it is the bark that is employed medicinally. Unsurprisingly, it has been traditionally used to relieve muscular tension, spasms and painful menstruation. It has a well-documented history of use, particularly by the Native Americans who used it to treat a wide range problems.

Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer three high quality products derived from this wonderful plant; Cramp Bark Tincture, Cramp Bark Tea and Cramp Bark Powder.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

Cramp Bark Powder can be added to smoothies, encapsulated or mixed with a little water or juice.

Suggested Serving:

1 - 2 grams of powdered bark per day. Can be split into smaller doses of "little and often"

The Cramp Bark used to make this powder has been carefully selected, dried and finely milled, maintaining the naturally-occurring constituents found in the plant. This powder has been dehydrated at a low temperature of less than 34 degrees, to allow slow evaporation of almost all of the water and to preserve all nutritional content. The powder is checked for pollutants and foreign particles before being made ready for shipment. This product is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic with absolutely nothing added. It is manufactured to GMP standards.

Do not use Cramp Bark if you have an aspirin sensitivity.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! This is rank. Use up to a teaspoon and mix into a tea with cinnamon, cacao and honey and turmeric to take away the horrible taste. But I have faith in it’s healing powers. Plants have been used since the dawn of our time I guess so...I believe lol

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Cramp Bark Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

The plants used to make Indigo Herbs Cramp Bark Tincture undergo stringent checks to ensure they develop to their fullest potential, whilst adhering to exceptionally high quality standards. After careful selection and cleaning the plant matter undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

I bought this to help with cramps and muscle fasiculations I've had for a couple of years in my lower legs and feet. Within a few hours of taking this for the first time, I noticed that my always very cold feet were feeling warm. This has continued to be the case, whenever I take this tincture which I now do about twice a day. Also my cramps have reduced much and the fasiculations are hardly noticeable. No adverse effects noted. Have already bought a second bottle to ensure I don't run out.
