Whole Cubeb Peppers from Indigo Herbs are exceptionally high quality whole dried berries from the Piper Cubeba plant native to Indonesia. The plant is sometimes referred to as 'Tailed Pepper' because of the little stalk that remains attached to the berry. The dried, wrinkled cubeb berries are similar in appearance to peppercorns though greyish-brown in colour. Cubeb pepper is often used in Moroccan & North African foods appearing as a key ingredient in spice blends such as Ras-el-Hanout, as well as in many recipes for Indonesian gulés (curries).

This pepper goes particularly well in Moroccan & North African foods, or give it a try for something a little different in any dish where you would ordinarily use regular black pepper. Cubeb pepper is often used as a key ingredient in spice blends such as Ras-el-Hanout, as well as appearing in many recipes for Indonesian gulés (curries). Although the sweet-smelling spice has distinctively bitter flavours, it looses its edge when cooked, and can even be used in Middle Eastern pastries, alongside honey and dates. The Whole Cubeb Pepper should be ground or milled before use in cooking.
