Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Our Estonian Wild Crafted Chaga can be brewed into a tea. Heat in water over a low heat (160°F or 75°C) to extract the phyto-chemicals of this medicinal mushroom. Brew for up to an hour, (will turn a deep brown colour, then drink). The same Chaga can be re-used until the water extracted from the chunk is pale in colour.

Serving:

1 - 2 teaspoons of Wild Crafted Chaga per cup is usually sufficient for one cup of Chaga tea. Remember that the Chaga can be reused.

Wild Crafted Chaga from Indigo Herbs are harvested from Birch trees in Estonia. Only mature Chaga mushrooms are harvested and smaller immature Chaga fungal growth is left until it has reached an acceptable size for harvesting. The Chaga mushroom grows high up on the Birch tree, and is picked in spring and summer. The mushroom absorbs the nutrients and compounds from the tree and makes it more available to humans. Chaga lives in a symbiotic relationship with the birch tree. The experienced fungus expert will break off the Chaga conk (the piece of fungal matter exposed on the trunk or tree branch) with his/her hand and taken back to be prepared for drying. If there is no sun available then the Chaga is usually dehydrated at a temperature no less than 40.5°C. The drying process is done as quickly as possible to insure that no other bacteria or fungus can grow on the Chaga matter. The pure fungus is then broken down to make small Chaga pieces and coarse powder.

There are no known side effects to date from consuming Chaga.

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out into the small ml measuring cup that comes with each bottle. (A medicine cup or spoon could also be used) and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Dandelion Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice.

Serving:

Dandelion Tincture:
Traditionally Taken: 5 - 10 ml tincture taken 3 times per day.
or as directed by a Herbal practitioner.

Manufacture Process

The stripped Dandelion leaf undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Dandelion is contraindicated where there is occlusion of the bile ducts or gall bladder empyema. Please consult a herbal practitioner when wishing to take dandelion in the cases of liver disease or oedema of a medical nature.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

Ginger powder can also be used in cooking and can be included in an herbal tea blend along with other herbal leaves and flowers.

Serving:

Ginger when taken as a powder for medicinal purposes, by putting a 1/3 teaspoon of the powder in water and drinking 3 times a day.

1 teaspoon equals 3 grams (1 tsp = 3g)
  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Re-sealable air tight, foil pouch.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Ginger Powder comes from ginger roots that are meticulously grown and inspected, resulting in some of the best Ginger in the world. After the roots have been harvested they are cleaned and inspected. Any insect eaten ginger is thrown out before the rest is dehydrated at a low temperature and then finely milled into a powder. This powder is then tested for heavy metals and other pollutants before being bagged and made ready for shipping.

High doses should be avoided if the stomach is already hot and over-stimulated, as in peptic ulceration. It should be used with care in early pregnancy, although it can be safely taken in small doses (1g dried root) for morning sickness.

Manufacture Process

All Zingiber officinale plants are grown to full maturity before the roots are dug up and carefully screened and dried. After a certain amount of moisture has been evaporated the roots undergo a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the blend. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. Indigo Herbs Ginger Tincture is made from 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added. It is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.

High doses should be avoided if the stomach is already hot and over-stimulated, as in peptic ulceration. It should be used with care in early pregnancy, although it can be safely taken in small doses (1g dried root) for morning sickness.

Myrrh Resin is tapped from a tree. This is done by scraping the bark and allowing the resins to bleed out and harden. These hardened resins are called tears. Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best tears due to their higher aromatic chemical constituents. The Myrrh resin then undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol.

Nettle Leaf Tea can be made into a hot herbal drink by infusing the herb in boiling water. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

Serving:

Use 1 - 3 tsp nettle leaf per 1 cup of boiling water 3 times a day.

1 teaspoon equals 1 gram (1 tsp = 1g)
  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Re-sealable air tight, foil pouch.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

The production process for Indigo Herbs Nettle Leaf Tea is very simple; the plant leaves are usually harvested during flowering and are set out to be air dried until they have as little moisture in them as possible. After selection of the best individual dried leaf there follows testing to guarantee there are no other constituents or pollutants in the plant material. To make sure that all chemical constituents remain intact, this pure leaf has not been heat treated in any way. All plants are produced to GMP standards giving this product the Indigo Herbs seal of approval.
