Indigo Herbs is very happy to bring you this fine aromatic incense from the depths of India. This is some of the finest Frankincense Resin that can be found from responsible sources. All Boswellia sacra trees that are harvested for Indigo Herbs Pure Frankincense Resin are cared for so that they do not decline from over use from the harvesting of this precious aromatic. The most famous western reference to this incense comes from the Nativity scene and the gift of Frankincense made by one of the Magi to Jesus Christ.

There is a long and esteemed history of use toward this fine incense. Frankincense has been noted in several historical works the world over having been traded on the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa for about 5,000 years. One of the more famous ancient depictions dated from around 1458 BC can be found in the tomb of the Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut. A mural there shows sacks of Frankincense being traded from The Land of Punt to Egyptian traders. Other references to Frankincense come from the Hebrew Bible and also the works of the Greek historian Herodotus who noted the method used in Arabia for harvesting the resin from the Boswellia sacra trees. There is are also references to Frankincense being traded to China from ancient Chinese shipping logs and other writings.

Frankincence was traditionally used in many ancient cultures for ceremony, prayer, healing and ritual. Frankincence is said to help open the higher energy centres and facilitate meditation, prayer and connection. Pure Frankincense Resin is a natural and pure aromatic and can be used to create a sacred space with an uplifting and peaceful energy.

Using Aromatherapy in your daily routine is simple, easy and can be enormously beneficial. Pure neat essential oils can be evaporated into the environment and inhaled while products that have already been diluted in an oil can be applied straight to the skin. There are lots of different ways to utilize the pure neat essential oils; these can be made into a room spray or used in an an essential oil burner/ vaporizer.

This is a lovely way to perfume an environment and essential oils are very good at affecting the mood, mind and emotions when evaporated into the air. Adding essential oils to your bath is the best way to ensure the oils are absorbed through the pores of the skin while also inhaling the vapors; maximum benefit can then be had whilst enjoying a soak. Additionally the neat oils can be diluted into a carrier medium. This can be a cream, body butter, face cream, vegetable body oil and bath salts to name a few. For full instructions go to our How to use Aromatherapy page.

Frankincense essential oil can be used in the bath, or vaporized in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil or cream. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart

Blends well with; benzoin, sandalwood, lavender, myrrh, pine, orange, bergamot and lemon essential oils.

Manufacture Process

Our essential oils are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation or cold pressing.

Indigo Herbs Frankincense Essential Oil is extracted using the "steam distillation" method. In this process the botanical material is placed in a still and steam is forced over the material. The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the pockets in which the oils are kept. Molecules of the volatile oils then escape and evaporate into the steam. The temperature of the steam needs to be carefully controlled - just enough to force the plant material to let go of the essential oil, yet not too hot as to burn the plant material or the essential oil. The steam now containing the essential oil is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam which forms a liquid. The essential oil is then separated from the water and bottled, resulting in 100% pure essential oil.

Essential oils need to be diluted first; never apply an essential oil directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.

Indigo Herbs Frankincense Resin is derived from the Boswellia carterii tree, and is known for its uplifting, peaceful qualities. With a sweet, woody and spicy aroma, Frankincense is said to help open the higher energy centres and facilitate the user in meditation, prayer and connection.

At Indigo Herbs we are passionate about premium quality botanicals. Explore the tabs on this page to find out more about the quality, manufacture and suggested use of this incense. At Indigo Herbs we are committed to empowering optimum health and nutrition and assisting you to take responsibility for your own health and wellbeing, by having access to many of natures healing botanicals.

Natural incense resins are simple and easy to use. The resins, dried leaves and woods need to be burnt to release their aromatic smoke. This smoke is a 100% pure and a great natural way to perfume a room. The resin is burnt on small charcoal disks, the disks need to be set in a heat resistant container for safety purposes. We recommend a purpose made incense burner that is made from brass.

The charcoal disk is lit and as it smoulders and turns grey the natural incense resins can be added. Additional incense can be added until the charcoal has burnt down. This incense experience is aromatic, heady and sensual. Why not bring out your inner perfume maker and enjoy blending different resins together to create the ideal aroma for an occasion. For full instructions go to our How to blend and use Incense page.

1. Take a lighter or match to a Charcoal disk, and when it is fully alight then set it safely into a charcoal disk holder, or heat resistant receptacle.

2. When the charcoal disk has turned grey and ash like, then add a couple of tears of plant resin, powder, bark or chips.

3. This plant matter will begin to smolder and release an aromatic smoke.

4. Set the lid on the charcoal burner, and enjoy the sensual experience of the aroma pervading the room.

5. Add more incense when required.

  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

Resin is tapped from a tree. This is done by scraping the bark and allowing the resins to bleed out and harden. These hardened resins are called tears.

Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best tears due to their higher aromatic chemical constituents content. It was noted by the Greek historian Herodotus that Styrax resin was burnt next to the Boswellia serrata tree to rid the tree of snakes in ancient Arabia.

Solgar Boswellia Resin Extract contains Boswellia, also known as Frankincense, and is one of Solgar’s Botanical range products.Solgar’s Botanicals are carefully selected from plants growing in the wild or cultivated on special botanical farms. The finest, freshest botanicals are chosen based on a strict set of criteria such as the geographical origin of the raw material, the authentication of the species and the qualities of the raw material. Botanicals have been used by mankind since early history as the beneficial effects of food beyond their nutrient function have been recognised since early times.

They have been used through centuries to maintain health and a lot of today’s medicines were originally derived from botanicals. Botanicals are still the basis for Chinese medicine and are important constituents of many European natural remedies. As Hippocrates said, ‘Let thy food be thy medicine, thy medicine be thy food’. Boswellia resin is derived from the Boswellia trees, and is also know under the name Frankincense. This tree is native to India and the acid in produces is believed to have strong anti-inflammatory benefits, supporting the immune system. There are over 20 different species of Boswellia. The ones which produce resin are made into oils which are classified in different grades depending on the time of year of harvest, how extraction and processing has been performed and the purity of the oil.

Solgar Boswellia Resin Extract is made from Boswellia Serrata, which contains most of the Boswellia acids. Boswellia has been used for centuries and is believed to support joint health. Really pleased with my purchase
Really pleased with my purchase, which arrived really quickly and I was also kept updated at every stage of the process. The product is really good quality which I think is also evident from the deeper colour of the infusion. Nice woody taste and in a fresh foil sealed packet. I had previously bought some from another company and the content was predominantly all stems.
