Ginger has long been respected in Chinese and Ayurvedic Medicine for its properties to spread warmth through the body. Respecting these age old medical traditions Indigo Herbs has two premium quality Ginger products to enliven your senses and help the body be relieved of cold. These are: Ginger Tincture and our pure Ginger powder. Great in cooking and as a digestive aid; let Ginger be at the top of your list for keeping the body functioning properly.

This succulent juicy root is one of the most economically important crops in Asia which produces nearly all of the world’s commercially grown Ginger. Thought to have originated in India, this plant is grown for its medical benefits as well as widely used in cooking. Both Chinese writings and Ayurvedic medical scriptures mention the benefits of Ginger and its application under the names ‘Shen Jiang’ and ‘singabera’. Ayurvedic references go as far back as 2,000 years but probably stretch much further into the past. In Europe Alexander the Great brought the spice back to Greece where it was grown and studied by Hippocrates and Dioscorides who prescribed it for cooking, calming the nerves and curing ‘darkness of sight’.

The Ginger root is sometimes described as a horn because of the way it grows. The rhizome stretch laterally through the earth and become bulbous oddly shaped roots. The rhizome is the part of the plant that is edible and has a corky skin with a pale yellow fleshy aromatic centre. The part of the plant that grows above ground is reed like, with waxy looking foliage that grow up laterally in large fan shapes. The flowers grow on short stems and produce small yellow flowers on a cone shaped bud.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

Ginger powder can also be used in cooking and can be included in an herbal tea blend along with other herbal leaves and flowers.

Serving:

Ginger when taken as a powder for medicinal purposes, by putting a 1/3 teaspoon of the powder in water and drinking 3 times a day.

1 teaspoon equals 3 grams (1 tsp = 3g)
  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Gluten free.
  • Re-sealable air tight, foil pouch.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Ginger Powder comes from China and is meticulously grown and inspected resulting in some of the best Ginger in the world. After the Ginger roots have been harvested they are cleaned and inspected. Any insect eaten Ginger is thrown out before the rest is dehydrated at a low temperature and then finely milled into a powder. This powder is then tested for heavy metals and other pollutants before being bagged and made ready for shipping.

High doses should be avoided if the stomach is already hot and over-stimulated, as in peptic ulceration. It should be used with care in early pregnancy, although it can be safely taken in small doses (1g dried root) for morning sickness.

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out into the small ml measuring cup that comes with each bottle. (A medicine cup or spoon could also be used) and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Ginger Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice.

Traditionally Taken: 1-2ml, 2-3 times per day.
or as directed by a Herbal practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

Manufacture Process

The ginger roots used for Indigo Herbs Ginger Tincture have been cultivated in China. All Zingiber officinale plants are grown to full maturity before the roots are dug up and carefully screened and dried. After a certain amount of moisture has been evaporated the roots undergo a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the blend. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added. It is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.

High doses should be avoided if the stomach is already hot and over-stimulated, as in peptic ulceration. It should be used with care in early pregnancy, although it can be safely taken in small doses (1g dried root) for morning sickness.

Indigo Herbs
Product ordered, dispatched and received within 24 hours. Discount voucher for next order included. The only complaint I have is that the herb I ordered, Damiana powder Is the most disgusting tasting substance I have ever come across, no matter what I put it in. If you are considering buying it, get the capsules, I will for my next order.

I am a returning customer to Indigo …
I am a returning customer to Indigo herbs. All previous orders were without problems. On my current order I tried without success to input a voucher code. There was no place to enter the code on the site when I made my order on this occasion. I sent an e mail to this effect to Indigo herbs and the response was to say the least, not very helpful and no follow up to the customer. No phone call, no follow up e mail, nothing. I am to say the least very disappointed and may take my custom elsewhere where it may be most appreciated. The voucher would have saved me the postage costs to Ireland, but could not be inserted on this occasion. This Matter has been resolved and I wish to reaffirm the 5 star rating to Indigo Herbs.
