Goldenrod

Goldenrod is a genus of around 100 – 120 flowering plants of the aster family, mainly native to North America. A herbaceous perennial species, they are mostly to be found in open meadows, savannahs and prairies. Goldenrod was highly esteemed amongst the Native American Indians for its medicinal properties and it was commonly used as a diuretic and a digestive aid. Externally, Native Americans boiled the leaves and used them topically as an antiseptic and astringent for wound healing.
