Grapefruit Essential Oil

Grapefruit Essential Oil

As a member of Indigo Herbs top quality essential oils, Grapefruit Essential Oil is a great uplifting ingredient that can be used in aromatherapy and diluted in a carrier oil to be used topically. Although not one of the most popular oils, Grapefruit is certainly one of the best if you’re feeling under the weather. Why not try our Grapefruit Essential Oil for a citrusy invigorating pick-me-up after a stressful day.

The history of the Grapefruit starts fairly late in the 18th century but could have been an earlier hybrid that originated from the Asian subcontinent. Grapefruits were first documented growing in Barbados by a Welshman called Griffith Hughes in 1750. Scientists have found that the fruit is probably a hybrid between the Sweet Orange and the Indonesian Pomelo. Both of these fruits originate in Asia pointing to the hypothesis that the grapefruit could have been a naturally occurring hybrid that was brought to Barbados from the Philippines in the 17th century. Grapefruits became popular when they were introduced to Florida in the 19th century and were selectively bred into several distinct varieties; the tangelo, the Minneola tangelo and the oroblanco all have separate qualities that make them individually outstanding.

Grapefruits have been known by several different names throughout history; ‘Forbidden Fruit’ and ‘the Shaddock’ are just two of these. The shaddock refers to how Grapefruits grow in clumps (a little like a cluster of grapes) but also to a legend that the Grapefruit was initially bred by a man called Captain Shaddock. Grapefruit is an evergreen tree that can reach a height of around 14 meters with dark green leaves and white star shaped flowers. Depending on variety the inside of the fruit can be either white, yellow or red.

Using Aromatherapy in your daily routine is simple, easy and can be enormously beneficial. Pure neat essential oils can be evaporated into the environment and inhaled while products that have already been diluted in an oil can be applied straight to the skin. There are lots of different ways to utilize the pure neat essential oils; these can be made into a room spray or used in an an essential oil burner/ vaporizer.

This is a lovely way to perfume an environment and essential oils are very good at affecting the mood, mind and emotions when evaporated into the air. Adding essential oils to your bath is the best way to ensure the oils are absorbed through the pores of the skin while also inhaling the vapors; maximum benefit can then be had whilst enjoying a soak. Additionally the neat oils can be diluted into a carrier medium. This can be a cream, body butter, face cream, vegetable body oil and bath salts to name a few. For full instructions go to our How to use Aromatherapy page.

Grapefruit essential oil can be used in the bath, or vapourised in an oil burner. It can be added to a massage oil or cream. Use 6-8 drops per bath and 10 -18 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. See Essential Oil Dosage Chart

Manufacture Process

Our essential oils are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation, extraction or expression. During steam distillation the plant matter is put into boiling water or infused with steam. The steam is collected and the oils are separated from the water. During extraction, a solvent is used to extract the oil, by creating a concrete. This concrete is made up of plant matter, resins, waxes, and essential oils. A second solvent, such as ethyl alcohol is used to extract the essential oils from the concrete, this creates an absolute. During expression the plant matter is pressed (at cool temperatures) to release the oils. Grapefruit essential oil is cold pressed however some essential oil is extracted from the pulp, this yields an inferior oil, so check extraction method of product.

Essential oils need to be diluted first; never apply an essential oil directly to the skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mouth. Avoid if you are taking homeopathic remedies.

Testosterone boosting order
Order can through the next day. Struggled getting through on the telephone order line to order tongkat ali. Eventually was able to place the order. Its early days on the powders I ordered but everything looks and smells authentic. Mainly taking the powders tongkat ali, catuaba bark and damiana for testosterone boosting properties. Certainly feel more energised in the few gym sessions I've had since starting the powders, I'm aware this could be a placebo as these powders can take a few weeks to build up in your system. Side note.. Try to encapsulate the powders if you can.. I mixed all powders into a luke warm drink and honestly I don't know how I kept it down!! Awful taste. I'm not taking it for the taste.. As long as it works that's all I care about.
