Guayusa Products

Guayusa Products

Indigo Herbs Guayusa Products are sourced from the Ilex guayusa tree native to rainforest of the upper Amazonian regions of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. Guayusa is a dioecious, evergreen tree of the holly family, the trees can reach over 10m in height and can live to be over 100 years old. They are abundant in large green glossy leaves which reach up to 15cm in length. They produce small, white flowers and spherical, red fruits about 7mm in diameter.

Historic evidence of a medicine man's pouch of dried Guayusa leaves dated 500BCE shows the effectiveness of the Guayusa plant has been long recognised in many South American cultures. The Kichwa people have long-revered the plant using it daily in Dream rituals and ceremonies, and it is also consumed socially for it's stimulating effects. When brewed in a tea, Guayusa has a smooth, earthy taste. Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer our new Guayusa Tea and Guayusa Tincture which harnesses the power of this potent herb in easy to take tincture form.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Grab a teapot, a cafetiere or your tea making equipment of choice. The botanical ingredients can be made into an herbal tea by infusing the herb in boiling water. Use 1 cup of boiling water per person. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

Serving:

Take 1  - 2 teaspoons of the leaf per cup of boiling hot water.

Indigo Herbs Guayusa Tea consists of the leaves of the Ilex guayusa plant which have been carefully selected, cleaned, dried and finely cut. After the leaves have been cleaned they are inspected for animal damage and selected for the best specimens to be cut and made into Guayusa Tea. The selected leaves are then dehydrated until there is little moisture in the plant material. The dried Guayusa is then tested for pollutants before being made ready for shipping.

Taking herbs in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Guayusa Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Guayusa leaves used to make this tincture undergo a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.
