Welcome. In this section we list our range of herbal tinctures. If you want to get the healing power of herbs into your body quickly and easily, consider tinctures. A tincture is a liquid preparation made by steeping the herb for several weeks in a blend of alcohol and water. The alcohol is able to extract chemicals from the plant material that water alone cannot; it also acts as a preservative, giving a long shelf life. Why not start your own little pharmacy in a kitchen cupboard? More about Tincture Strength....

On the tincture labels you will see the percentage of alcohol used. For example, 45% volume means 45% alcohol, 55% water. The strength of the tincture is also stated. For example, 1:3 means 1 part herb for every 3 parts liquid.

Because tinctures are concentrated, you only need a small amount. For medicinal purposes, the rule of thumb is 5ml 3 times a day. Use the measuring cups that we provide – don’t rely on teaspoons as they vary in capacity. Being in liquid form, the chemical constituents of the herb enter your bloodstream rapidly.

Tinctures can be taken in a little water or juice. For children or those who wish to avoid alcohol, pour just-boiled water onto the tincture and leave for 10 minutes. This evaporates off most of the alcohol. If in doubt about using tinctures, consult a registered medical herbalist.

Our pharmacopoeial grade tinctures, as with all our botanicals, come with a certificate of analysis, detailing tests for taste, odour, constituents, pesticide residues etc.
