Horsetail Products

Horsetail Products

Horsetail is a descendant of larger plants that grew 270 million years ago during the carboniferous period. It belongs to the Equisetaceae family and is a relative of the fern. It grows in moist, rich soils in all parts of the world except Australasia. The use of Horsetail as a herbal remedy dates back to Ancient Greek and Roman times where it was used to heal wounds, bones and as a natural diuretic. Horsetail is well known in herbalism as a source of silicon, especially in the assimilable form of silicic acid, which may explain its persistent traditional use for bone and connective tissue health.

Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer three Horsetail products; Horsetail Tea, Horsetail Tincture and Horsetail Powder.

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

Horsetail Powder can be added to smoothies, encapsulated or mixed with a little water or juice.

Serving:

A typical dosage of Horsetail Powder is one to two grams up to three times per day.

The plants used to make Indigo Herbs Horsetail Powder are harvested at peak potency. After the best examples have been selected, they are freeze dried before being milled into a fine powder. The Horsetail Powder is then tested for heavy metals and toxins before being made ready for shipment.

Not recommended for diabetics or pregnant or breastfeeding women.

If you are taking any prescription medications, please consult your healthcare practitioner before taking Horsetail.

Due to the effect that Horsetail has on certain vitamins and minerals in the body, long term use of Horsetail Powder is not advisable. Taking a break after a week of daily ingestion is highly recommended.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Horsetail Tea can be made into a hot drink by decocting the Horsetail into boiling water. Use 2-3 teaspoons per cup of boiling water and steep for 5 -10 minutes depending on taste. Then strain and serve.

The plants that are used for Indigo Herbs Horsetail Tea come from plants that are grown specifically for the use as tea. The Horsetail plants first reach maturity before they can be cut and dried in semi shade. Only the best prime examples of the leaf are used in our tea. The plant matter is then slow dried out of direct sunlight and tested for pollutants before being made ready for shipping.

Not recommended for diabetics or pregnant or breastfeeding women.

If you are taking any prescription medications, please consult your healthcare practitioner before taking Horsetail.

Due to the effect that Horsetail has on certain vitamins and minerals in the body, long term use of Horsetail tea or tincture is not advisable. Taking a break after a week of daily ingestion is highly recommended.

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Horsetail Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

For Hair: Mix 3 to 4 drops of Horsetail Tincture with 2 tablespoons of Coconut Oil. Massage onto the scalp to promote blood circulation and strengthen hair follicles.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

The plants used to make Indigo Herbs Horsetail Tincture undergo stringent checks to ensure they develop to their fullest potential, whilst adhering to exceptionally high quality standards. After careful selection and cleaning the plant matter undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Horsetail comes from a unique feathery reed-like plant with a history that goes back to prehistoric times. It is light in flavour and aroma. Fossil records of horsetail detail the history of this remarkable plant. With its growth dating back to prehistoric times, horsetail is frequently called a living fossil. These plants are long and thin, like reeds, and bear skinny leaves that give it a wispy appearance, much a brush. The origin of its name is rather debated. Most believe the name refers to its resemblance to a horse tail, but it is also possible to have come from one of its historic uses, when the branches were tied to a horse’s tail to chase away flies when flicked. Horsetail was also employed as natural brush used to clean cookware. However, it was mainly used as an ingredient for cooking, served raw or cooked like asparagus. Once dried, it makes a light herbal drink.

Indigo Herbs has selected some of the best dietary supplements, teas & snacks from other leading health brands to complement our own extensive range of nutritionally dense superfoods, wholefoods, herbal powders and loose leaf teas. As well as being of the highest quality we believe these products directly relate to Indigo Herbs mission to offer our customers the best possible range of life enhancing health and nutrition supplements.

Use 1 bag per cup and infuse for 3 - 6 minutes.
