Icelandic Moss Products

Icelandic Moss Products

Iceland Moss has a long history of use as both a food and medicine in Europe, Canada and North America. This polysaccharide rich lichen grows abundantly on the Icelandic lava fields – hence its name, however it will also grow in alpine areas of the Northern Hemisphere.

Iceland Moss is classed as a cooling herb and has been used for centuries in folk medicine for it properties as an expectorant. It was extensively used by the Icelandic people in breads, porridge, soup and even candy!

Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.

Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Powders page.

Another option is to use a Capsule Machine that can be bought from the Indigo Herbs website. Filling capsules with your favourite herb has never been easier when you buy a Capsule machine. You can then be sure that the capsules you are taking are 100% pure ingredients without fillers added by some companies.

Icelandic Moss Powder can be mixed with water and taken daily. Suggested Use: 4g - 6g daily.

Alternatively, Icelandic Moss Powder can be made into a tea by pouring 1 cup of boiling water over 1–2 tsp of powdered Iceland Moss. The mixture is covered and steeped for 10–15 minutes. Natural sweetener can be added to the tea.

The Iceland Moss used to make Indigo Herbs Icelandic Moss Powder is harvested between May and September. It is then cleaned of any impurities and air dried in the shade. The moss is then gently ground into a powder and tested for pollutants before being made ready for shipping.

Whilst Icelandic Moss is generally considered safe, in excessive doses or with prolonged use, it can cause nausea, looseness of the bowels, gastric irritation or liver problems.

If you are taking any prescription medications, please contact your healthcare professional before consuming Icelandic Moss.

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Iceland Moss Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Iceland Moss used to make this tincture undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Iceland Moss is not recommended if you suffer from gastro-duodenal ulcers. Not for children under 6 years of age.
