Also known as: Strax resin, Gum benzoin, Gum benjamin.

Natural incense resins are simple and easy to use. The resins, dried leaves and woods need to be burnt to release their aromatic smoke. This smoke is a 100% pure and a great natural way to perfume a room. The resin is burnt on small charcoal disks, the disks need to be set in a heat resistant container for safety purposes. We recommend a purpose made incense burner that is made from brass.

The charcoal disk is lit and as it smoulders and turns grey the natural incense resins can be added. Additional incense can be added until the charcoal has burnt down. This incense experience is aromatic, heady and sensual. Why not bring out your inner perfume maker and enjoy blending different resins together to create the ideal aroma for an occasion. For full instructions go to our How to blend and use Incense page.

1. Take a lighter or match to a Charcoal disk, and when it is fully alight then set it safely into a charcoal disk holder, or heat resistant receptacle.

2. When the charcoal disk has turned grey and ash like, then add a couple of tears of plant resin, powder, bark or chips.

3. This plant matter will begin to smolder and release an aromatic smoke.

4. Set the lid on the charcoal burner, and enjoy the sensual experience of the aroma pervading the room.

5. Add more incense when required.

  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.

Manufacture Process

Resin is tapped from a tree. This is done by scraping the bark and allowing the resins to bleed out and harden. These hardened resins are called tears.

Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best tears due to their higher aromatic chemical content.

These pine needles come from Finland where they have simply been plucked from branches of Pinus Sylvestris and slow dried to insure that all the aromatic chemical constituents are kept inside. All pine needles have come from trees that are scheduled for felling and represent a rich part of Scandinavian history. After all the pine needles are dry they are made ready for packing and shipping.

Manufacture Process

Resin is tapped from a tree. This is done by scraping the bark and allowing the resins to bleed out and harden. These hardened resins are called tears.

Tapping is done 2 to 3 times a year with the final taps producing the best tears due to their higher aromatic chemical content.

Taking herbal remedies in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out into the small ml measuring cup that comes with each bottle. (A medicine cup or spoon could also be used) and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Burning Incense Sticks is often associated with purifying and cleansing the space. The delicious scent brings an aromatic conformity to the space which can trigger mental relaxation. It is for this reason that incense is commonly used as an integral part of preparing a meditation space.

To Burn:

The Incense Stick must stand in a fire-proof incense burner with an area to catch the burnt remains. Light the end of the Incense Stick, wait until the tip glows brightly then gently blow or fan the flame out.

Shikha Incense Sticks are traditionally hand blended and hand rolled in India using the age-old “masala” method. This produces a light, clean burning incense that creates a minimum of smoke and slowly spreads a gentle aroma.

Each distinctively unique incense stick is a blend of 100% natural resins, essential oils, herbs, spices, flowers and raw forest honey. The exact ingredients are a closely guarded secret having been passed down through the same family for generations.
