Indigo Herbs now stock 3 varieties of Maca Powder; Yellow Maca, Red Maca and Black Maca. Black Maca

Red Maca

Emotional Balance Essential Oil 10ml

  • Emotional Balance essential oil can be used in the bath, or it can be vaporised in an oil burner to create an uplifting and calming atmosphere.
  • It can be added to a massage oil or cream and used as a body oil.

Emotional Balance Essential Oil 10ml

The essential oils we use in our unique blends are manufactured to GMP standards using steam distillation or cold pressing. During the "steam distillation" process, the botanical material is placed in a still and steam is forced over the material. The hot steam helps to release the aromatic molecules from the plant material since the steam forces open the pockets in which the oils are kept. Molecules of the volatile oils then escape and evaporate into the steam. The temperature of the steam needs to be carefully controlled - just enough to force the plant material to let go of the essential oil, yet not too hot as to burn the plant material or the essential oil. The steam now containing the essential oil is passed through a cooling system to condense the steam which forms a liquid. The essential oil is then separated from the water and bottled, resulting in 100% pure essential oil.

During the “cold pressing” process, the botanical material (such as the rinds of fruits) are placed in a spike-filled container and slowly punctured. The cold press machines also utilise centrifugal force to help separate the oil from the rest of the plant pulp and liquid. The puncturing and spinning process releases the essential oils, which are then collected and bottled resulting in 100% pure essential oil.

Indigo Herbs Maca is cultivated in Peru, at high altitude (over 4000m). The growing season is eight months long, which gives time for the nutritional profile to develop fully. A further three months is given to a natural, open-air drying process. The dried roots are cleaned and broken into small pieces. These are then processed (also known as gelatinised) to break down the starch molecules into shorter chains to make the nutrients more easily absorbed by the human body. This finished powder contains the full array of nutrients that Maca has to offer. Indigo Herbs capsule casings are made from HPMC, a plant-based cellulose material approved for vegetarian and vegan use by the Vegetarian Society, and Halal and Kosher-certified. HPMC is about as biologically neutral a foodstuff as it is possible to find, and the only other ingredient in the casings is water. Our Organic Black Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.

The seed are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.

Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Black Maca Powder.

Manufacture Process

Our Organic Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.

The seeds are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.

Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Maca Powder.

Manufacture Process

Our Organic Red Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.

The seeds are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.

Here the Red Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. Maca powder can be taken with hot or cold water, you can add milk and honey too, and it can be mixed with fruit juice or fruit smoothies, sprinkled on cereal or added to many other foods.

Organic Maca Powder 500g:

Our Organic Maca Powder is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground.

The seeds are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant.

Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Maca Powder.

Organic Ashwagandha Capsules 250:

The Organic Ashwagandha used to make these capsules has been carefully selected, dried and milled down into fine powder. The powder is then encapsulated before being made ready for shipping. This is the whole part plant powder, and nothing has been extracted. This herbal powder can be traced back to the growers at source. It is farmed sustainably and ethically in a farming co-operative in India. 

The powder is encapsulated in the UK by a leading GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) registered pharmaceutical manufacturer. GMP registration requires rigorous inspection by the MHRA and regular GMP audits enforce optimum quality standards in the encapsulation process. Indigo Herbs capsule casings are made from HPMC, a plant-based cellulose material approved for vegetarian and vegan use by the Vegetarian Society, and Halal and Kosher-certified. HPMC is about as biologically neutral a foodstuff as it is possible to find, and the only other ingredient in the casings is water. The capsules are 100% pure, using no fillers, binders or bulking agents. Each capsule contains 500mg of powder.

Reishi Powder 100g

The process of growing the mushrooms involves using 30cm slats of steamed (sterilized) wood from the basswood tree being placed in plastic bags and the Reishi spores placed on top. These bags are then placed in a perfect warm moist environment where the spores can develop and grow across the basswood slat. After 4 months the spores have developed sufficiently enough that the slats can be planted under earth in a growing base where the temperature is maintained at 25°C. Over a period of about 3 months the mushrooms break ground and start to mature. Around August and October every year the Reishi Mushrooms are harvested to be selected for size, colour and quality. After this selection process the mushrooms are ready to be milled into a fine powder.

Vitamin A is the name given to a group of fat-soluble antioxidant compounds.  Two different types of vitamin A are found in the diet; “preformed vitamin A” (also referred to as retinol or retinal) is found in animal products and “pro-vitamin A” is found in plant based foods - the most common type being beta-carotene.  It was the first fat soluble vitamin to be recognised and is sometimes referred to as the “anti-infective” vitamin due to its enhancement of the body’s immunity against infections by increasing the lymphatic responses against disease forming antigens.  It keeps the mucous membranes moist that line the mouth, respiratory passage and urinary tract and enhances the activity of white blood cells.

Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin which is best known for its role in helping your blood to clot or coagulate properly by helping to form the proteins necessary for your bloods clotting factor.  The K comes from its German name “Koagulations” vitamin.

Folate – the naturally occurring vitamin B9 – is often confused with folic acid.  Folic acid is a synthetically derived molecule created in a German laboratory in the 1940s and does not occur naturally in food.  Needless to say, folate metabolizes faster in the body and any excess is excreted through the urine whereas folic acid can accumulate in the blood and may adversely affect immune cell function.  Nature knows best when it comes to nutrition!  Folate is probably the vitamin whose essential role in pregnancy is most widely known.  It is necessary for the production of new DNA which is needed for the production of new cells – the growing life within the womb engages in constant cell division and the mother must expand her blood supply with the production of new red blood cells – these activities demand a generous supply of folate.

Also known as vitamin B7 or vitamin H, biotin is an essential micronutrient for all mammals and is a water soluble member of the B vitamin family.  Biotin performs its magic by activating a broad spectrum of biological processes related to carbohydrate, fat, protein and sugar metabolism - biotin and the rest of the B vitamins are essential nutrients for converting these macronutrients into fuel to power all the cells in your body.
