Manjistha Products

Manjistha Products

Manjistha, also known as Indian Madder, is a perennial, prickly climbing vine that has beautiful heart shaped leaves. According to the "Doctrine of Signatures" theory, the shape of the leaves demonstrates its affinity to the cardiovascular system. It has long been deemed as an important herb in the ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda, where it is considered a lymph mover and blood purifier. This rejuvenating herb is also recognised in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it has the nickname “Xue Jian Chou”. The literal translation means that “the blood becomes so sad once it meets the madder (Manjistha) herb,” alluding to Manjistha’s powers to rid the blood of any imbalance.

Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer a new range of Organic Ayurvedic Tinctures. Organic Manjistha Tincture harnesses the power of this potent herb in easy to take tincture form.

Taking herbs in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Manjistha Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice. Take 2-3 ml 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Manjistha roots used to make this tincture undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Manjistha (Rubia cordifolia), Alcohol, Water.
