Mullein Products

Mullein Products

Native to Europe, northern Africa and Asia and established in the United States in the early 18th century, Mullein is a common biennial plant with furry leaves and small yellow flowers that smell like honey. Growing up to 8 feet tall, Mullein plants love the light, and easily spread through hearty seed production.

Mullein tea has a long history of traditional use stretching back to Ancient Greece when the famous physician and naturalist Dioscorides recommended it for healing many maladies. It was also used by many Native American tribes as a folk remedy for many problems.

Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer you Mullein Flowers Tincture, which harnesses all of the beneficial compounds in easy to take tincture and Mullein Leaf Tea - a soothing and nurturing tea with a delicious, mild, aromatic flavour with a hint of spice enabling you to choose the most effective way you would like to use this herb.

Buddha Teas Organic Mullein Leaf Tea

The mullein plant is versatile and can grow easily on its own in a vast array of different habitats. It is marked for its bright yellow flowers, which are thought to resemble a flickering candle. The tall, weed-like plant known as mullein is native to Europe and parts of Asia, though it can now be found in North America as well. Mullein can reach over three feet high, and the spike of vibrant yellow flowers it produces appear much like a lit candle from a distance. This unique appearance has earned it names such as Candlewick Plant, Candelaria, and Jacob’s Staff. Mullein was also used to create wicks for lamps before cotton became more favourable. Its soft, downy leaves have been used for generations to make mullein leaf infusions. This herbal drink offers a taste many people find quite pleasant, subtle and slightly sweet. Honey or sugar may also be added for those who prefer a sweeter drink. It also blends quite well with other herbs, particularly the exceptionally delicious spearmint infusion. Indigo Herbs has selected some of the best dietary supplements, teas & snacks from other leading health brands to complement our own extensive range of nutritionally dense superfoods, wholefoods, herbal powders and loose leaf teas. As well as being of the highest quality we believe these products directly relate to Indigo Herbs mission to offer our customers the best possible range of life enhancing health and nutrition supplements.

Use 1 bag per cup and infuse for 3 - 6 minutes.

Taking herbs in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Mullein Flowers Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Mullein Flowers used to make this tincture undergo a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Grab a teapot, a cafetiere or your tea making equipment of choice. The botanical ingredients can be made into an herbal tea by infusing the herb in boiling water. Use 1 cup of boiling water per person. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Mullein Leaf Tea should be strained with through a cheesecloth or coffee filter to remove any stray hairs from the leaves before drinking.

Serving:

1-2 grams dried herb per cup of boiling water, per person, up to 3 times per day.

1 teaspoon equals 1 gram (1 tsp = 1g)

  • Produced to GMP standards.
  • Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs.
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Re-sealable air tight, foil pouch.
  • 100% pure botanical ingredients, absolutely nothing added.
