Indigo Herbs Organic Goji Berries come from plants grown in rich, river-fed soil. The plantation has about 3,000 Goji trees per hectare and each are grown much like a vine horizontally and to a height of around one metre. Harvest begins in June and will last until November where each tree will typically produce around 1 KG of fruit. After picking, the berries are screened and undesirable individuals are thrown out. The Goji is then laid out on big wooden boards to dry. The dried Goji berry resembles a small dried raisin and can be stored for about a year without loss of colour, taste or high nutrient profile.
Vitamin A is the name given to a group of fat-soluble antioxidant compounds. Two different types of vitamin A are found in the diet; “preformed vitamin A” (also referred to as retinol or retinal) is found in animal products and “pro-vitamin A” is found in plant based foods - the most common type being beta-carotene.
