Vitamin E is an umbrella term for a group of eight fat soluble compounds (tocopherols) that are found in a wide variety of wholefoods.  These compounds, of which alpha-tocopherol is the most biologically active, have a number of functions in the body. 

Vitamin E is an important antioxidant whose primary role in the body is to scavenge free radicals – these are rogue atoms or atomic groups that have lost at least one electron, forcing them to steal electrons from neighbouring molecules in the hope of stabilizing themselves.  Whilst unsurprisingly this can cause havoc in the body, vitamin E has the ability to neutralize these free radicals thus protecting the cells from oxidative stress.  Vitamin E deficiency is rare due to its ability, whilst working in concert with a number of other compounds (including vitamin C), to restore reduced levels of vitamin E in the body.  The richest source of vitamin E is wheat germ, other foods that contain significant amounts include eggs, nuts, sunflower seeds, cold-pressed vegetable oils and avocados.

I am now a regular customer of Indigo herbs and this time I bought their spirulina tablets - oh yes - super healthy spirulina and now wihtout the awful taste!!! I am sure many healthy fans of spirulina have gotten ued to or have always like the taste of spirulina, but I have always had issues with it - I have also tried chlorella and moringa to see if I preferred that taste. The health benefits of spirulina are well documented and scientifically researched, and for someone like me who has an autoimmune disease that makes absorbing nutirents difficult to impossible, spirulina is a must. Now indogo Herbs have come up with an easy way to take it - they have simply taken the dried powder you normally add to smoothies or in my case take in a shot glass, and compressed it into a tablet, no addedd anything, and now I can take 1-4 a day and it tastes of absolutely nothing, and also the cleanup is a lot easier - I once made the mistake of leaving a smoothie bottle with chlorella in it overnight and it took 3 weeks of scrubbing to get it off! Creating these tablets was a fantastic idea as many of us who want to have a nutritious diet struggle with the taste of spirulina.
