Plantain Products

Plantain is a herbaceous perennial plant in the Plantaginaceae family, which reaches a height of 30cm, with a rosette of broad, oval-shaped, green leaves and distinct petioles. It is native to Europe and is widely naturalised elsewhere in the world where it thrives in even the most damaged ecosystems, making it incredibly important in soil rehabilitation.

Plantain Leaf is classed as a valuable herb that has been used to relieve various ailments for millennia. Rich in beneficial plant compounds, it is one of nine sacred herbs mentioned in the ancient Lacnunga (Remedies), a collection of Anglo-Saxon medical texts. It is used in Columbia to promote overall health and well-being, whilst in Mexico it has a long history of traditional use as a digestive aid.

Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer you an extremely high quality Plantain Leaf Tincture, harnessing all of the benefits of this herb in easy to take tincture form and Plantain Leaf Tea enabling you to choose the most effective way you would like to use this herb.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Grab a teapot, a cafetiere or your tea making equipment of choice. The botanical ingredients can be made into an herbal tea by infusing the herb in boiling water. Use 1 cup of boiling water per person. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

Serving:

Take 1-2 teaspoons of the herb per cup of boiling hot water

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Plantain Leaf loose Tea comes from plants that are grown for the specific use as tea. When this perennial is at peak maturity, in the summer, the leaves are separated from the root and air dried in the shade so none of the chemical constituents are destroyed by the sun. The leaf cut is then tested again for any pollutants before being shipped. This process complies with GMP standards and has the Indigo Herbs seal of approval.

Taking herbs in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Plantain Leaf Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Plantain leaves used to make this tincture undergo a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

Maybe I need to use it for a lot longer before commenting and this is the problem I have with reviewing herbal-type remedies after only a fairly short time using them.
