Ratanhia is a bushy shrub that is found in dry and rocky sites, native to the foothills of the Andes in Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. Indigenous people have used ratanhia as a medicinal plant, especially used for inflammation in the mouth. The root of the ratanhia plant contains calming tannins which strengthen and fortify the gums, and help to relive irritation in the oral cavity.
Weleda Ratanhia Toothpaste 75ml. The people of the Andena Mountains in Peru traditionally use Ratanhia root to clean their teeth. The sturdy red root is rich in tanning agents which protect and strengthen sore gums, and it contains natural anti-bacterial qualities. Weleda add calming myrrh and refreshing essential oils of peppermint and spearmint, with calcium-based cleansers for a naturally effective toothpaste.
