Known to the ancients as "the Mushroom of Immortality", Reishi mushrooms have been used for medicinal purposes for at least 2,000 years. They enjoy a great reputation of promoting health, longevity & supporting the immune system due to the hundreds of biologically active molecules contained within these mycological heavyweights. One of these compounds is Ganoderma Lucidum Peptide which is thought to be responsible for its powerful antioxidant capacity, with polysaccharides & triterpenes targetting inflammation which in turn can bolster the immune system. Traditional Eastern Medicine attributes the success of reishi mushroom to its ability to "defend the equilibrium" and maintain balance in the body - there is now a growing body of research which appears to back this up! For thousands of years reishi has been used by monks, Taoist adepts & spiritual seekers throughout Asia in the belief that it helps to calm the mind, ease tension, strengthen the nerves & build willpower resulting in the attainment of wisdom - earning it the name of "the Mushroom of Spirtual Potency".
Using Herbal and Superfood powders on a daily basis is simple, easy and can be really delicious. The simplest way is to rehydrate the powder in a little filtered water to make a shot, this can easily be prepared once, twice or three times per day if you are taking the herbs therapeutically. However sometimes the herbs can be bitter so the botanical powders can be added to a superfood smoothie instead of just water. The smoothie can be made with a base of nut milk, seed milk or non-dairy milk such as rice milk. Alternatively the main body of the smoothie can be created with fruit or vegetable juices.
Additional superfood and herb powders can be added to fortify the smoothie with extra beneficial properties. The powders are largely dissolvable and can be scooped in and then blended, shaken or stirred until fully mixed with the liquid. Any true Superfood smoothie disciple would advise that the list of possibilities is endless with the goal to feel great and potentially replace a meal with this glass of super goodness. The grower of the reishi mushrooms used to make Indigo Herbs Reishi Mushroom Powder is one of the most accomplished and technologically advanced cultivators of mushrooms in the world. Every aspect of the growth process is monitored from temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, light intensity, and nutrient uptake making sure that these mushrooms result in the very finest examples of Reishi. This particular supplier has been sending his products to the US and Europe for over 15 years and is trusted to produce a top quality product. The process of growing the mushrooms involves using 30cm slats of steamed (sterilized) wood from the basswood tree being placed in plastic bags and the Reishi spores placed on top. These bags are then placed in a perfect warm moist environment where the spores can develop and grow across the basswood slat. After 4 months the spores have developed sufficiently enough that the slats can be planted under earth in a growing base where the temperature is maintained at 25°C. Over a period of about 3 months the mushrooms break ground and start to mature. Around August and October every year the Reishi Mushrooms are harvested to be selected for size, colour and quality. After this selection process the mushrooms are ready to be milled into a fine powder.
Side effects from Reishi can include dizziness, dry mouth and throat, nosebleeds, and abdominal upset. These rare effects may develop with continuous use over three to six months. Pregnant or breast-feeding women should consult a physician before taking Reishi.
