Silver Birch Products

A medium-sized deciduous tree, easily recognized for it's silvery-white, papery bark, the Silver Birch is native to Europe and parts of Asia. The tree has a slender trunk, typically reaching a height of 25m, catkin flowers and broad triangular leaves. Its light, winged seeds are easily blown by the wind, and it is a pioneer species, one of the first trees to sprout on bare land or after a forest fire.

Traditionally known for it's purification properties, this tree is considered sacred in Celtic and Norse mythology. In Finnish saunas and Russian "Banyas", traditional steam baths, bundles of Birch twigs are used on the skin to promote circulation and to symbolise the cleansing and revitalisation that occurs during the bath. The Celts believed in the beautifying properties of Silver Birch, and it was specifically used for those who wanted a new beginning for body or mind. Indigo Herbs is delighted to offer our new Silver Birch Leaf Tincture which harnesses the power of this potent herb in easy to take tincture form and Birch Leaf Tea enabling you to choose the most effective way you would like to use this herb.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! For full instructions go to our How to make Herbal Tea Page.

Grab a teapot, a cafetiere or your tea making equipment of choice. The botanical ingredients can be made into an herbal tea by infusing the herb in boiling water. Use 1 cup of boiling water per person. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy.

Serving:

Take 1-2 teaspoons of the herb per cup of boiling hot water

Taking herbs in a Tincture or Fluid extract preparation is simple and easy. The tincture can be measured out in a small ml measuring cup, medicine cup or spoon, and the tincture can be taken directly.

However some people do find the bitter tincture taste to be too strong, so it may be a good idea to dilute the drops in water or fruit juice. For children, the elderly, those with a sensitive constitution or those avoiding alcohol, the alcohol can be evaporated from the tincture. This can be done by putting the drops in boiling water and leaving for 10 minutes to evaporate. For full instructions go to our How to take Herbal Tincture page.

Silver Birch Leaf Tincture can be added to water or fruit juice and taken when required.

Traditionally Taken: 2-3ml taken 2-3 times per day, or as directed by a Herbal Practitioner.

20 drops from the glass dropper equals approximately 1ml.

After careful harvesting, selection and cleaning the Silver Birch Leaves used to make this tincture undergoes a process of cold percolation in order to extract the active constituents into tincture form. The cold percolation method employs a gradient circulation of the solution which keeps the plant ingredients in perpetual contact with the ethanol. This technique is faster and more efficient than maceration and ensures there is less waste of precious plant materials. This premium quality product is manufactured to GMP standards and Quality Assured by Indigo Herbs. It is 100% pure botanical ingredients, completely free of synthetic ingredients with absolutely nothing added.

I adore Indigo Herbs
I adore Indigo Herbs! I'm a hedge witch and Doula and use lots of herbal goodies. I can buy almost everything I need (that I can't find by foraging) and to my great delight, cacao paste at a fabulous price, which I use medicinally. I needed to buy horseradish root and turmeric root recently to make fire cider and I was disappointed that IH don't supply things like this. If you read this IH perhaps you could consider it? Thank you.
