Skullcap Products

Following in the long tradition of herbal plant ingredients Indigo Herbs brings you two great Skullcap products. Incorporating all the properties that have made this plant famous we have Skullcap in its pure dried form of Skullcap Leaf Cut Tea, and in liquid form via Skullcap Tincture.
The History of this herb stretch back to the tribes of Native Americans where Skullcap was used by the Cherokee Indians in a ceremony to introduce teenage girls into womanhood. During the 17th century Skullcap was thought to be a cure for rabies with a Dr. Van Derveer claiming to have cured over 4,000 cases in both animals and humans. His claim was soon brought to ground by a group of his peers but the names Mad dog Weed and Mad Dog have stuck as alternative titles for Skullcap.
Growing to 3 foot in height this plant can be found in wooded areas in the eastern United States. The leaves are a vibrant green with scalloped edges and blue to purple flowers that bloom from July through to September. The name Skullcap derives from its root name in Latin 'Scutella' meaning 'small dish' or 'tray'. Both the Latin and the common name refer to the shape of the flower and how they resemble the shape of a dish or hat.
