This fruiting tree has significance in religion and the emergence of civilised populations at the beginning of history. Indigo Herbs has two fig products that are both completely pure and represent this fruit in its best possible light. Firstly we have Indigo Herbs Whole Organic Figs and our Violet Fig Powder. The latter in powdered form being very versatile making it easy to add to many food dishes or smoothies. Combining a great array of minerals, antioxidant vitamins, fruit sugars and soluble fibres the fig can be seen as a very healthy addition to a healthy lifestyle.

The fig tree is quite possibly the oldest cultivated species known to have started the practice of agriculture during the Neolithic period. In the Jordan Valley, near Jericho, an archaeological site found remains of figs thought to have been used for food dating to 9,400 BC. This date is about 1,000 years before wheat and barley was thought to have first been cultivated as a domesticated crop. This may account for the significance drawn to the fig in Christianity and the bible. During the time of the Roman Empire figs were an integral part of the diet and were spread far and wide by the conquering armies. Now fig trees can be found all over the world with many different species acclimatising to the environments where they were introduced.

There are many named species of fig but the common fig is the one that is cultivated the most for its fruit. A deciduous shrubby tree that grows to a height of 8 meters and has very distinctive wide aromatic leaves. Each leaf has five lobes that produce a fan shape for capturing the maximum amount of sun. Flowers grow inside the fig fruit and are pollinated by a special wasp that climbs into the fruit through a hole called the ‘ostiole’. If pollination doesn’t occur the fruit is sterile and doesn’t produce seed. The flowers inside the fruit are a part of what make a fig so delicious.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Organic Whole Figs have been cultivated and harvested in Turkey. They are grown in large groves where absolutely no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used. Being under strict organic certification these fruits are some of the best that can be found. After the figs have been picked, cleaned and screened they are laid out for drying in the sun where they are checked regularly to make sure they dry properly and evenly. When most of the moisture has evaporated the fruits are screened again and then tested extensively making sure that all batches of figs are in no way contaminated with other pollutants or heavy microbial activity. After this process they are made ready for packing. Tis complies with GMP standards and is quality assured by Indigo Herbs.

None known. May have a laxative effect.

Excellent customer service
I found all staff at Indigo herbs to be extremely helpful and prompt in responding to my error in selecting the delivery address. I live in Australia and had placed an order for my mother who is unwell, unfortunately the time difference meant that I was unable to stop the delivery. Thank you to the staff at Indigo herbs for a generous and satisfactory solution. It is a great comfort to me knowing that I can provide care for my mother while overseas.

As expected
Accurate and expedient. Excellent service. I would much rather let you know if it weren't, than having to tell you this every time I purchase though.

Shamanic Dream Mix
Lovely mix to smoke as a tobacco alternative. Needs a bit of picking out of the largest bits but this is really no issue or effort. Smells lovely and has a good slow burn to it. Would absolutely recommend. Shipped in protective packaging and it fit through my letterbox so no need to sign for / pick up should you not be around.
