The origins of the walnut are thought to have come from Persia where the Juglans regia tree grows in the wild and is also cultivated on a wide scale. Evidence has found that Neolithic peoples were consuming and cultivating walnuts 7,000 years ago but it was the ancient Greeks and Romans that spread this nut throughout Europe.
