Vitamin A is the name given to a group of fat-soluble antioxidant compounds.  Two different types of vitamin A are found in the diet; “preformed vitamin A” (also referred to as retinol or retinal) is found in animal products and “pro-vitamin A” is found in plant based foods - the most common type being beta-carotene.  It was the first fat soluble vitamin to be recognised and is sometimes referred to as the “anti-infective” vitamin due to its enhancement of the body’s immunity against infections by increasing the lymphatic responses against disease forming antigens.  It keeps the mucous membranes moist that line the mouth, respiratory passage and urinary tract and enhances the activity of white blood cells.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Goji Berries are grown on the banks of the yellow river in China. This location is perfect since the soil is rich and the Goji trees can easily be fed by the river. The plantation has about 3,000 Goji trees per hectare and each are grown much like a vine horizontally and to a height of around one metre. Harvest begins in June and will last until November where each tree will typically produce around 1 KG of fruit. After picking, the berries are screened and undesirable individuals are thrown out. The Goji is then laid out on big wooden boards to dry. The dried Goji berry resembles a small dried raisin and can be stored for about a year without loss of colour, taste or high nutrient profile.

Not advisable for those taking blood thinning agent walfarin.

Can cause diarrhoea and skin irritation if taken in excess. Goji berries have no toxicity, but should be avoided if one has a spleen deficiency.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! Grab a teapot, a cafetiere or your tea making equipment of choice. The botanical ingredients can be made into an herbal tea by infusing the herb in boiling water. Use 1 cup of boiling water per person. Let the tea brew for 5 - 15 minutes. Strain and enjoy. Vitamin A is the name given to a group of fat-soluble antioxidant compounds.  Two different types of vitamin A are found in the diet; “preformed vitamin A” (also referred to as retinol or retinal) is found in animal products and “pro-vitamin A” is found in plant based foods - the most common type being beta-carotene.  It was the first fat soluble vitamin to be recognised and is sometimes referred to as the “anti-infective” vitamin due to its enhancement of the body’s immunity against infections by increasing the lymphatic responses against disease forming antigens.  It keeps the mucous membranes moist that line the mouth, respiratory passage and urinary tract and enhances the activity of white blood cells. 

Known as retinol because it produces the pigments in the retina in the eye, it enables your eyes to adjust to light changes, keeps the eyes moist and improves night vision.  It can also significantly reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration.  Vitamin A helps to keep your body free from free radicals and toxins which might cause damage to your skin, helping to keep it soft and supple by ensuring moisture retention.  Vitamin A deficiency can impair iron metabolism which can lead to anaemia despite adequate iron intake.  Playing an important role in cells’ ability to adapt to perform specific functions in larger organs, the richest sources of preformed vitamin A are found in liver, kidney, butter and whole milk, whereas good sources of pro-vitamin A are dark green leafy vegetables and yellow-orange vegetables such as sweet potatoes and carrots.

Unlike many Apricots found in the market place these Apricots have not been treated with sulphur dioxide gas to keep their color. Indigo Herbs Organic unsulphured Whole Apricots are cultivated in Turkey and grown under strict organic conditions. The whole process from picking to packing is done in a traditional sense where each step is done by hand. After being handpicked the Apricots are laid out in the sun to be dried. Experts tend the fruit until they have the right moisture content to be tested and cleaned. Testing insures there are no pollutants or heavy metals in our Apricots and that they are completely organic. No herbicides or pesticides were used in the cultivation of these Turkish Apricot trees and all fruit comes to you in perfect condition.

Manufacture Process

Indigo Herbs Organic Whole Figs have been cultivated and harvested in Turkey. They are grown in large groves where absolutely no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers are used. Being under strict organic certification these fruits are some of the best that can be found. After the figs have been picked, cleaned and screened they are laid out for drying in the sun where they are checked regularly to make sure they dry properly and evenly. When most of the moisture has evaporated the fruits are screened again and then tested extensively making sure that all batches of figs are in no way contaminated with other pollutants or heavy microbial activity. After this process they are made ready for packing. Tis complies with GMP standards and is quality assured by Indigo Herbs.

Manufacture Process

These wonderful and delicious Organic Mango Slices originate from Burkina Faso in West Africa where they have been grown under strict organic conditions. Every aspect of growth of the Mangifera indica trees is inspected at regular intervals to insure the fruits are growing to a high standard. When the season is nearing a close the mangos are carefully handpicked and inspected for damage before being cleaned and screened. When the best mangos have been selected they are mechanically peeled and cut from the large inner kernel. The fleshy juicy strips are then dried in special dehumidifiers to slowly take all the moisture out of the flesh. Once the drying process has finished the mango strips are tested for pollutants and other heavy metals before being made ready for shipping. The whole process is certified organic, complies with GMP standards and is quality assured by Indigo Herbs.

Making a delicious cup of tea with loose leaf herbs is simple and easy. Brewing loose leaves is a traditional art with many different styles and varying items of tea brewing equipment on the market. There are one cup teaballs that can be filled with loose leaves, flowers, and barks and submerged straight into a boiling cup of hot water and then left to infuse. The rule of thumb with brewing loose leaves is to allow them to fully release their beneficial aromatic phyto-chemical content.

This process is lovingly called brewing and takes 5-10 minutes so a tea cosy is recommended if you are using a pot. When making a pot of tea it is advised that you use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per person and one for the pot. Any true tea maker who truly appreciates the art would recommend heating the pot first, and of course when the tea is fully infused it is absolutely necessary that the drinker sits down and takes a minute to enjoy! Schizandra Berries can be decocted by boiling in water for 10-15mins to prepare a herbal tea drink.

Use: 1 -3 grams per 1 cup of water 3 times per day. Do not exceed suggested dose.

Grown to maturity until the end of July, the berry is picked, cleaned and then dried in shade so none of the chemical constituents are lost from sun damage.
